Certified translation
Certified Romanian Translation in the UK
Certified Romanian ↔ English translation of legal, official and personal documents, produced by an independent translator and Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
What makes a translation “certified”?
In the UK, a certified translation is a complete translation accompanied by a signed statement from the translator. According to GOV.UK guidance, that statement must confirm three things:
- That it is a “true and accurate translation of the original document”
- The date of the translation
- The translator’s full name and contact details
A certified translation does not need to be notarised or signed by a solicitor. What matters is that the translation is complete, accurate and traceable to an identifiable, independent translator.
Why an independent translator is required
A translation submitted for official purposes must be produced by someone independent of the applicant. Translating your own documents, or asking a friend or family member to do it, is not accepted — nor is machine translation, regardless of how accurate it appears.
Membership of a recognised professional body provides that independence and traceability. I am an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, membership number 96085, which you can verify on the CIOL register.
Documents commonly certified
Certification is most often requested for documents that need to be submitted to a UK authority, employer, university or court:
Birth certificates
Marriage and divorce certificates
Identity documents and passports
Police and criminal record certificates
Diplomas and academic transcripts
Court and legal correspondence
Employment and reference letters
Medical and administrative records
If your document is not listed, please ask — the list above is indicative rather than exhaustive.
Cost
Legal document translation is charged from £0.20 per word and general text from £0.12 per word, with official documents priced per page. The optional certification statement is £20. Every project is quoted individually, since final pricing depends on complexity, urgency, formatting and legibility. Full rates are on the pricing section, and Legal Aid Agency rates are offered for legal aid cases.
Translation services only. This page explains general document requirements and does not constitute legal or immigration advice. Always check the specific requirements of the body you are submitting to.
